ESI (The Guardian)'s leading element lands squarely on SLE (The Marshal)'s vulnerable function, so ESI sees SLE's weak spot constantly and effortlessly — usually without meaning to. Meanwhile SLE's best work bounces off ESI unnoticed. SLE keeps trying to earn ESI's regard; ESI isn't withholding it and often has no idea any of this is happening.

The relation
Socionics names this Supervision. It isn’t a rating of the two people — it falls out of where each type’s elements sit in the other’s Model A, and it would say the same about any SLE/ESI pair.

SLE is Beta, ESI is Gamma. Different quadras want different things from a room, so even where you get on, the ambient values need translating.
Where the pressure lands
SLE’s vulnerable element is Fi; ESI’s is Ne. Those are the two sore spots — in Socionics almost every hard relation is really a story about one person’s strongest element sitting on the other’s weakest.
A note on gender
This relation is asymmetric. It reads differently depending which side you’re standing on — ESI and SLE are not having the same experience, and that’s the whole point of it.
