ESE (The Enthusiast)'s base function is ILI (The Critic)'s point of least resistance, and the reverse — so simply being yourself lands, unavoidably, on the other's sorest spot. Socionics rates this the most difficult relation of all, and neither party is doing anything wrong.

- Your natural way of being is the thing that hurts them most, and you can’t switch it off.
- Both parties try hardest exactly where it does most damage.
- The theory says close quarters wear both of you down. Distance is kind here.

Socionics names this Conflict. It isn’t a rating of the two people — it falls out of where each type’s elements sit in the other’s Model A, and it would say the same about any ESE/ILI pair.

ESE is Alpha, ILI is Gamma. Different quadras want different things from a room, so even where you get on, the ambient values need translating.
Where the pressure lands
ESE’s vulnerable element is Ni; ILI’s is Fe. Those are the two sore spots — in Socionics almost every hard relation is really a story about one person’s strongest element sitting on the other’s weakest.
