Autism Screener

This is a screening questionnaire, not a diagnosis. A high score does not mean you are autistic, and a low score does not rule it out. Only a qualified professional can assess and diagnose autism. If you'd find an assessment helpful, your doctor can refer you.

The AQ-10 has ten statements. Each scores 1 point when your answer falls on the side the item is keyed to (an "agree" item counts for either agree option; a "disagree" item for either disagree option). Scores run 0–10, and 6 or more is the point at which a full autism assessment is usually suggested.

At or above the threshold (6–10)

Your answers reach the level where clinicians often recommend a fuller assessment — if one would be helpful to you. This is not a diagnosis. Autism is assessed by trained professionals using detailed history, developmental information and observation, far more than a ten-item form.

Below the threshold (0–5)

This screen didn't reach the referral cut-off. It isn't definitive, though — the AQ-10 is brief and not designed for everyone. If your own experience points toward autism, trust that and seek an assessment regardless of the number.

What to do next

  • Jot down specific examples — social communication, routines, sensory experiences, focused interests.
  • Consider gathering input from people who knew you as a child, since clinicians look at early development.
  • Ask your GP/doctor about a referral, or approach a qualified autism assessment service directly.

Important

This is a screening questionnaire, not a diagnosis, and no online tool can diagnose autism. Being autistic is a difference, not an illness — an assessment is about understanding and support, on your terms.
