What your result means

Anxiety Screener

This is a screening questionnaire, not a diagnosis. A high score does not mean you have an anxiety disorder, and a low score does not rule one out — only a qualified professional can diagnose. If anxiety is affecting your life, please reach out to your doctor or a mental-health professional.

The GAD-7 adds up your seven answers (each 0–3) into a total from 0 to 21. Higher totals mean more frequent anxiety symptoms over the past two weeks.

Severity bands

  • 0–4 — minimal
  • 5–9 — mild
  • 10–14 — moderate
  • 15–21 — severe

A total of 10 or more is the usual point at which further assessment for an anxiety disorder is recommended.

What it does and doesn't mean

This is a screen, not a diagnosis. Anxiety overlaps with stress, sleep, caffeine, thyroid issues and much more, and the GAD-7 can't tell those apart or see your context — a clinician does that. A low score doesn't rule anxiety out either.

What to do next

  • If your score is in the moderate range or higher, or anxiety is affecting daily life, talk to your GP/doctor or a mental-health professional.
  • Note when and where the worry shows up, and how long it's lasted.

If you're struggling

If anxiety feels overwhelming or you're in crisis, contact your local emergency number, or a helpline such as 988 (US) or 116 123 (Samaritans, UK/IE).
